2002 A NEW HEROINE

Despite its seedy reputation, in 2002, a new HEROINE arrived on the street with a dream in her eyes and a team by her side.

Kelsey Bunker and Tod Breslau partnered up and took a chance on a site that most said couldn’t be developed.

A transformation began to take place, as the Jupiter Hotel dream came to life and from their bootstraps, they rebuilt the rundown motel and evolved a seedy Eastside neighborhood into one of the most artistic and culturally vibrant scenes in Portland.

2018 NEXT EVOLUTION

In 2015, Bunker and Breslau began the NEXT chapter of the Jupiter Hotel. Looking in the neighborhood, they saw a run down burger joint on a seedy used car lot and decided it was time to invest again on Burnside.

Thus was born Jupiter NEXT, the modern evolution to the original rendition. This hotel, a sophisticated and literally elevated expansion, connects you to the vibrancy of Portland’s urban life, and features spectacular, unedited views of the city. Same Jupiter values, a more luxurious landing.

FIGHTING FOR INNOVATION

“Fighting for innovation is not easy. It is hours at city hall championing a new design aesthetic; it is rounds of event permitting with the fire marshal; it is fixing city parking woes for visiting tour buses; it is leading hard discussions on what our clients deserve and need. And it’s following through 100% of the time every time. We don’t give up on what we believe in. It makes us who we are.”

RECLAIMING REAL

“People come here to create. To explore. To innovate. They want real connection in real time. Building hotels is easy, but creating spaces that-by design-encourage people to break down their own barriers takes intention and a level of real connection you can’t get UNLESS you’re local.”

ANCHORED by COMMUNITY

From incubating small businesses to hosting LGBTQ events to becoming a corporate campus for a week, everyone is welcome here...From hosting refugees after Katrina to hosting local fundraisers, our loyalty is with our community. Jupiter NEXT highlights the work of these local makers:
- Beth Kerschen, photographic collagist, muraled Portland-inspired headboards.
- Seek & Swoon, local fabric and blanket designers, vibrant throws and bedding.
- Laura Sol of Sol Creations, watching metal run molten since 1996.
- Four brilliant local restaurateurs leading a jungle-themed, fern bar-inspired restaurant/bar/all-day hang spot.

Jupiter Hotel has been in the middle of this creative community for more than 14 years. And we look forward to many more.

CHANGING THE FACE OF TRAVEL

Times are changing. The world is changing. Travelers are changing. Good thing we like change. “Our community of travelers is adventurous. They are curious. They like fun. We love being their gateway to those experiences in Portland.”

"The Jupiter Hotel was born out of a desire for a place where you could go as a stranger and end up being part of a community, where the underground became the obvious, where you were rewarded for looking a little deeper. The Jupiter changes every season, every year. As owners we continue to evolve alongside our beloved hotel. We hope that when you visit, you too will profit from your time here."
