Our Story

Once Upon a Time...
There lived a lonely, run-down motel on a dark, empty, street.

2002 A NEW HEROINE

Despite its seedy reputation, in 2002, a new heroine arrived on the street with a dream in her eyes and a team by her side. Kelsey Bunker and her business partner, Tod Breslau, took a chance on a site that most said couldn’t be developed. She brought in a music venue, the Doug Fir, that became an iconic Portland institution; hired an upcoming architect, Skylab Architecture, to implement the vision; and, over the course of two years, a transformation took place as the Jupiter Hotel dream came to life. The rundown motel was rebuilt, and a decaying Eastside neighborhood evolved into one of the most artistic and culturally vibrant scenes in Portland.

2018 NEXT EVOLUTION

In 2015, the NEXT chapter of the Jupiter Hotel began. Across from the hotel was a run down burger joint on a used car lot. Seeing an opportunity, it was time to invest again on E Burnside. Continuing the successful formula of creating a local hangout, this time through the inclusion of restaurant and bar team, Hey Love, and hiring a forward thinking architect, Works Progress Architecture to design her vision, the Jupiter NEXT was born: the modern evolution to the original rendition. This hotel, a sophisticated and literally elevated expansion, displays the vibrancy of Portland’s urban life, and features spectacular, unedited views of the city. Same Jupiter values with a more luxurious landing.

Community

Our loyalty is with our community; From the small businesses incubated under our roof to the local partnerships we set up in our neighborhood, The Jupiter puts people first. Our staff is dedicated to bringing the best of themselves to our guests' hotel experience as well as to the community at large.
