Your Emotional Support Winter Menu Has Arrived

The right food’ll get you through it!

Winter in Portland leads a lot of locals into the warm, inviting glow of our favorite restaurants…and every Portland local thinks their favorite restaurant is better than everybody else’s. (See also: donut shops and pizzerias.)

And you know what? They’re all right. Who needs to debate favorites in such an unparalleled foodie city, anyway?

Step outside of Jupiter and you’re literally seconds away from award-winning food and drink. (Our hotel bar Hey Love is one of them!) Warm and cozy soups, stews, pies, and nightcaps are all on this list, so add them to yours and let us know what you think.

But first, you’ll need a place to stay. Why not…

Cheese. That’s it. That’s the sentence.

If it’s a hot bowl of fondue you’re after, look no further than Swiss Hibiscus; a blend of Swiss cheeses, white wine, and kirschwasser with cubes of French bread make for a cozy winter meal. Want something different? You’ve got the run of Swiss cuisine here, from schnitzel to brötchen. En Guete!

Kinboshi Ramen

Can anything beat a hot bowl of ramen and a cold beer on a frigid rainy day? Still a newcomer when it was voted Best of Portland in 2019, Kinboshi’s reputation has only skyrocketed since. With rich, warming broth that can beat any cold, let this izakaya-style haunt be your lunchtime oasis. It’s just a block away from Jupiter, but if it’s too chilly out, go ahead and order delivery. We won’t judge.

Phở MeKha

Want a little more variety? Venture out past the Central Eastside to Phở MeKha, where you’ll be spoiled for choice. We’re going on record that MeKha is one of the best Vietnamese restaurants in the city, with alarmingly large portions and a cozy atmosphere frequented by locals and visitors alike. Pop a squat here with a steaming bowl of beef stew and let the “real Portland” come to you.
