Jupiter NEXT is smack dab in the Central Eastside of Portland. Waking up with us means you have access to everything the city has to offer -- and beyond! We're on an everything-outdoors kick this summer, and what better way to get outside than by enjoying a relaxing float down a Pacific Northwest river. Or by escaping to a high-adventure whitewater trip that you won't forget. Check out some of our favorite river romps within driving (or busing distance!) from Jupiter NEXT. First things first...
Our inspiration for this blog post comes directly from our fearless leader's fun time on the White Salmon River with Wet Planet Whitewater Rafting (pictured above). This 7-hour experience comes with all the gear, plus a picnic lunch partway through! This trip isn't for the feint of heart, however, as you'll be crossing Class III & IV rapids -- but check out those laughs and smiles. Plus, you'll get a 10% discount on half- and full-day trips if you use the code RaftJupiter21 on the Wet Planet website. Discounts and day-long adventures? We're in!
Looking for a little more leisure in your day? Grab your river tube (pool floats are no good here!) and head out to Sandy River for a relaxing meander through the water. Our favorite starting and stopping points? Start at Dabney State Park, and bring a friend who will leave their vehicle at Lewis & Clark State Park. That way, you don't have to hike all the way back upstream. Trust us, after a super serene soak in the Sandy, you'll be glad you did.
Going out with a group? Look no further. Clackamas River offers more of a fun-and-friendly party vibe than some of the other float spots nearby. While drinking and floating isn't technically allowed, we've been assured of many ways to get creative while staying... hydrated... Start at McIver State Park in Estacada, and you can dip out at either Barton or Carver Parks, depending on how long you want your trip to last. And it's only a 30 minute drive from Jupiter NEXT!
If you're up for an hour drive, Washougal River in Washington tends to be slightly less full of fellow floaters than some of the closer-in spots. Put in around Mile 3 on Washougal River Rd, and jump right in. One of our favorite aspects of this trip are all the bridge jumping and low key swimming areas. So much fun!
No car and/or want to stay a little closer to town? Head south to Sellwood, and put in on the Willamette River at Sellwood Riverfront Park. Go south, we say? Yep! The Willamette River runs from South to North! You can get to the park by bus, and hop out of your float at the Hawthorne boat dock. You'll come out by lots of delicious Portland restaurants like Bunk Bar, Noraneko, and lots of breweries and other places to check out on your way back to the hotel. And let us know how the water is!
After a long day of floating, soaking, swimming, or navigating treacherous whitewater rapids, treat yourself to a night at Jupiter NEXT. Keep the good times rolling at Doug Fir Lounge(reopening soon!) or dive into the summery cocktails at Hey Love. Summer at Jupiter Hotel is unparalleled. All we need is YOU!
