PORTLAND'S PUBLIC MENORAH

Kicking off on November 28th this year, Chabad of Oregon will light Portland’s Public Hanukkah menorah at Pioneer Courthouse Square, Sunday November 28th – Sunday December 5th. On the First night, Sunday November 28th, at 5:00 PM  there will be live music, Chanukah foods, dignitaries and festivities to kick off the eight nights of Chanukah. חֲנוּכָּה שַׂמֵחַ to all of our friends celebrating Chanukah this year. Have a joyous festival of light!

CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS AT THE GROTTO

When we think of December, there are a few holidays that come to mind. In an effort to get our minds in the holiday zone, we have to start the vibe off right. Presenting the sights, sounds and sensations of the season, The Grotto’s Christmas Festival of Lights is the largest Christmas choral festival in the world. The festival features nearly 160 indoor holiday concerts performed by many of the region’s finest school, church and civic choirs. Offering a family-oriented blend of traditional celebration and serene reflection, the festival theme reflects the special season of hope that Christmas offers to many thousands of families from around the Pacific Northwest.Dress cozy, then come back to Hey Love for a night cap before heading to bed.

Now that you've got your mind in the right place this holiday season, what better way to celebrate than by showing your friends, family, and special people in your life how much you love them by showering them with gifts! The state of Oregon has no sales tax -- Portland, included -- plus, we have SO much local artisinal talent within the Rose City. Check out the enormous Crafty Wonderland event at the Oregon Convention Center, December 10-12, 2021, for unique handmade wares from over 225 local vendors! Show your support by attending My People's Market, a vibrant pop-up marketplace that showcases work by local makers of color, December 5-19, 2021 at The Redd, also in walking distance of Jupiter NEXT. Prefer to shop online? This winter's Portland Indigenous Market will take place on their website, featuring work and wares by local indigenous artists and entrepreneurs, December 11, 2021.

MAKE IT A TRADITION

We love revisiting Christmas and holiday traditions, and one thing we love to do is head out to the Pittock Mansion, a short drive across downtown to the NW, where this year's Critters Make Merry exhibit will feature the Mansion's gorgeous rooms decorated with furry friends in enchanting animal havens. Another favorite winter tradition? The Nutcracker! See George Balanchine's classic performed by the Oregon Ballet Theatre's brilliant ballet dancers in downtown Portland's Keller Auditorium.

KEEPING IT WEIRD DURING THE HOLIDAYS

When you go to the mall for those quintessential photos with Santa, you only see the one guy, right? Or maybe two if it's during a shift change?
