Can you feel it? The air is getting cooler, the ads for pumpkin patches are getting more prevalent, and the dreaded PSL marketing has begun... it's FALL, Y'ALL! As we are drawn into the Halloween season, we know how important it is to follow tradition. One of our favorites? Jack-O'-Lanterns and pumpkin carving, of course! We've come up with a list of our favorite Portland-themed carvings we found after scouring the internet. Use these as inspiration, or share your own (tag us at #jupiterhotel if you do). Before you go pumpkin carving crazy, and make sure you...
We like that this Bigfoot carving incorporates Bigfoot AND a Big Foot. Ten points for creativity! It also looks somewhat doable from our limited experience carving anything apart from the cutout kits you buy in the checkout line at Fred Meyer.
We're in the Rose City, so we have to represent what we know! By carving a rose on your pumpkin, you're throwing it back to the history of Portland and our International Rose Test Garden fame. At Jupiter, we're close to the Rose Quarter, and it's a relatively short ride on the MAX to get to the Rose Garden to experience the smells and beauty that these fine flowers have to offer.
Besides being extremely cute (yet dangerous, we know), Voodoo Dolls remind us of a spectacular Portland location... Voodoo Doughnuts! If you've ever stood in line to get your own pink box filled with fun, often irreverent goodies, you'll know exactly how Portland a voodoo doll can be. We recommend the voodoo doll doughnut (filled with raspberry jam and stuff with a couple of pretzel sticks), or really any of their other fun options!
Shout out to #8, Diego Valeri, who recently left the Timbers after an absolutely epic career. He may not currently be playing for the team, but he's still there in our hearts, and he represents one of the things we LOVE about Portland... The Timbers! Whether you are a Timbers or Thorns fan, you can find lots of inspiration in the sports teams in Portland. Need we even mention the Trailblazers?? Go team!
Okay, not particularly Portland-related, but what Oregonian hasn't had part of their experience living in this state equated to something about the Oregon Trail? The game shaped many of the Millennial residents of Portland, and those that didn't have firsthand knowledge of what it's like for your entire party to die of dysentery (or a rattlesnake bite, or having to decide between fording the river or trying the old caulk and float...). We think this option is a strong contender for a pumpkin carving masterpiece!
Carve to your heart's content, then unwind in the center of it all! Need a place to cozy up and decompress before heading up to your room for the evening? Stop in at Hey Love for a night cap. Summer at Jupiter Hotel is unparalleled. All we need is YOU.
