Food trucks, carts, and pods have made national headlines since Portlandia's debut, though it feels pretty day-to-day for locals. We don't know a single person who lives in Portland who hasn't had lunch, dinner, or a quick snack at one of these local treasures. From boba tea to barbecue, food carts continue to make Portland a little more weird and a lot more delicious. Before you gorge yourself on Portland's tastiest food carts, make sure you...
Well, of course we have to start with our Local Hookup partners at Midcity Smashburger, who are slinging some of the best (and most affordable) smashies this side of the Willamette... or anywhere else in Portland! Show off your Jupiter key card at their cart on 10th and SE Stark St, and you'll get a free order of fries when you get any burger. The smash sauce... is incredible. Don't take our word for it... get there!
An entire food cart made to celebrate the unendingly sensational and ever-delicious french fry? We think YES. Potato Champion has been around since 2008 in the Cartopia food cart pod on SE 12th and Hawthorne, and since then, they've brought the crispiest double-fried Belgian fries with every imaginable dipping sauce combo from Canadian poutine (IYKYK) to PB & J fries with jam and peanut satay sauce. We're drooling just thinking about it.
In the parking lot between Jupiter NEXT and Union Jack's strip club, you'll find our friends at Thai Champa, serving up some of the best Thai comfort food like Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, curries, fried rice dishes, and so much more. This family-run food cart dishes up delicious food and kind conversation. We're pumped to have them as neighbors, and so what if you can see our staff there every day off the week!? Two orders of crab puffs, please!
Two words: Pandan Buns. The bright green breading makes these burgers and other Vietnamese treats (including a pandan donut) well worth the 2-block walk from Jupiter Original and Jupiter NEXT. Matta's website really explains it all: "Each dish is pulled from a memory of that life and how it has played an influence on my life. We’ll have some dishes that come straight from the soul, as well as dishes that come from the memory banks with a flip on the concept. Vietnamese food done through an American lens, and American food done through Vietnamese eyes." And, honestly, we had their fish sandwich less than a week ago, and we're already planning our next trip to try even more.
Everyone was devastated when Le Bistro Montage (Montage for short) closed during the 2020 pandemic, but we were thrilled when they announced they'd be sticking around in their own way -- via a food near the same restaurant location they'd been in for years. So head over to the Hawthorne Asylum Food Cart Pod, and you'll be met with the best mac and cheese of your entire life. Yeah, we know that's a tall order, but their Spicy Cajun Mac is the best, for real.
Gorge yourself on epic eats from any number of Portland's best food carts, then unwind in the center of it all! Need a place to cozy up and decompress before heading up to your room for the evening? Stop in at Hey Love for a night cap. Summer at Jupiter Hotel is unparalleled. All we need is YOU.
