2018: Year in Review

2018: Year in Review

Big things happened... Really big things!

2018 was a quiet… peaceful… uneventful year for the Jupiter Hotel-- SIKE! We’ve had one of the craziest years in our existence (since 2004) so far! We opened a brand new hotel! We welcomed a new restaurant and bar into the fold! We have double the rooms… and that means double the pets!! Read on to get in on the updates from an absolutely phenomenal 2018. And of course, we couldn’t have done it without YOU, our amazing community of travelers.

We decided what came NEXT

Because what else do you do after 14 years of kickass, unbridled FUN?? A couple years ago, co-owners and Managing Partners Kelsey Bunker and Tod Breslau, decided to take fun to the NEXT level. So they decided to dive-in and double rooms by building a brand spankin’ new hotel from the ground up. Jupiter NEXT was born, with 67 new rooms (and interior hallways that end in Banksy murals!) and tons of public space to hang out and feel a little bit of that PDX community we love and cherish. We also welcomed our newest restaurant tenant, Hey Love (winner of Bar of the Year and Most Beautiful Bar in Eater PDX’s reader polls!).

Community is still the most important thing

This year, we’re proud to continue our   community building efforts within our Central Eastside neighborhood, by expanding our Local Hookups program., We’ve added the women-owned businesses at 811 E Burnside (Redux, Kate Towers, Haunt, Seven Sisters, xobruno, and more!), Sizzle Pie, Envi Adventures, Artists Repertory Theatre, and so many other incredible folks. Check out our Local Hookups page to see who we’re working with -- several of our partners offer discounts with simply a mention of our hotels. We have huge plans for 2019, partnering with new local events, arts organizations, and continuing to maintain a steadfast partnership program in our city’s cultural center.

Both properties have gotten national play

Portland Business Journal's CRE Transformer Award
Bloomberg “Across the river on the east side of the city is Jupiter Next, a new hotel in a once-derelict part of east Burnside. (It’s also just one block from Canard.) The 67 rooms are stocked with chocolates—of the nonmedicated kind—from local edibles company Grön and have enormous windows with views of the city’s ever-morphing skyline.”

Portland Tribune “I just hope there's always a place for that old motel the Jupiter remodeled 14 years ago. The beauty of Portland comes from the conversation between new and old architecture, between sleek and rough-hewn. The success of Jupiter next comes partly from WPA's design, and partly from being a continuing story where the past meets the present.”

1859 Magazine “a uniquely Portland experience with its electric design, wildly popular basement music venue… take in the big views of the downtown Portland skyline before heading to bed…”

Rachael Ray Every Day “this boutique hotel has a hipster vibe and easy access to live tunes”

Sunset Magazine “The Jupiter, a 81-room rebooted roadside lodge, keeps Portland weird.”

Portland Monthly “Unlike the original Jupiter—a converted 1960s motor inn, that, since 2004, has courted hipsters, rockers, and fans of lo-fi vice tourism—[Jupiter NEXT] feels more dinner party than dive bar. ‘There’s still a loud party next door, but everyone is 14 years older now; they want a quiet cocktail, maybe.’”

Fodor’s Travel “Once word spread about its edgy yet innovative offerings, celebrities ranging from Katy Perry to Snoop Dogg flocked to this Lower Burnside location to see what’s up.”

Reader’s Digest “...the retro vibe is not lost among the new: Each room has era-appropriate furniture and pop-culture-style murals bearing the likenesses of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and John Lennon.”

And it's only just begun

All this said, we’ve had a rad 2018, and it only makes us more excited for what’s to come. Thank you all for everything you’ve done to make our last year the most memorable one yet. 2019… come at us!
