WINTER HIKING DESTINATIONS

One of our favorite winter ways to keep warm is by hitting up some of the gorgeous natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest! Take advantage of Portland's location and make a quick trip to some of the most stunning winter hikes you'll ever walk. But before you go, make sure you lock in a warm spot to rest your head...

WILDWOOD TRAIL | FOREST PARK

An easy jaunt over the Willamette River and through downtown Portland will bring you right up to our in-town jewel of a outdoor adventure spot -- Forest Park! With plenty of evergreen trees to keep the nasty weather at bay, we recommend hiking through the famous Wildwood Trail, a 5.1 mile trek through gorgeous Pacific Northwest scenery, just a stone's throw from the hotel.

CAPE FALCON TRAILHEAD | ARCH CAPE, OR

Want to take a day trip to the Oregon coast? National and state parks dot the coast, offering plenty of options for outdoor adventure with an ocean view. We're partial to the gorgeous Cape Falcon trek, which features mountain views, ocean sights, and gigantic trees that make even the longest walking stick look small. Sneak out to the coast, spend about three hours on this 4.6 mile trail, grab some seafood on the coast, then head back to Portland to relax in style at the NEXT.

DOG MOUNTAIN | COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE

Stunning in both summer and winter, Dog Mountain offers incredible views of the Columbia River Gorge, as well as city views from high above. If you stop in to Portland during a snowy season, check out options for snowshoeing on Dog Mountain for an experience you'll never forget. This quick hour-long drive will drop you on to a 6-mile trail with over 2800 ft (861 m) of elevation. This trail isn't for the super amateur hiker, but if you're down to push yourself a bit, the views are totally worth it.
