Jupiter Hotel's Artist Residency Program
ARTISTS SLEEP HERE
TLDR; Selected artists in town for arts-related events will be awarded comped rooms for up to five nights at Jupiter Hotel.
Jupiter Hotel’s ARTISTS SLEEP HERE residency provides opportunities for artists to subsidize housing costs while staying in Portland short-term. Artists-in-residence are provided with complimentary accommodation in a single- or double-queen room at the hotel. Artists-in-residence must be in town for a public presentation, performance, workshop, or similar event during their residency within Portland, Oregon. In final performances or publications, please include, “Supported in part by Jupiter Hotel’s ARTISTS SLEEP HERE residency program.”
In exchange for comped stays, artists will send their event information to Jupiter Hotel for cross-promotional opportunities, trading social media posts and shout-outs. By sharing information about the artists’ events, Jupiter allows our extensive network of urban adventurers to learn more about local artistic events through Portland and provides the artist with a new crowd of followers from the ever-curious culture-seekers who frequent our hotel.
ASH residencies are intended for professional contemporary artists, recognition among their peers, and a history of public presentation of their work in a professional context. This residency is not intended for current students.
Applications are welcome from local, regional, national, and international contemporary artists working in a wide range of disciplines including visual art, film, arts writing, music/sound, curating, design, dance, theater, and contemporary performance. Jupiter Hotel will not be offering any assistance with visas for international artists.
The residencies will take place for periods of one to five days, November 2019 through April 2020, and winter seasons thereafter.
Applications must be sent through the host organization responsible for bringing the artist to Portland.
Due to the limited number of rooms available, applications are not accepted from collaborative groups with more than four members (sharing a double-queen room).
Successful candidates should have a valid government issued identification , and be prepared to pay for meals, incidentals, travel costs, as well as transportation within the city of Portland. We recommend bringing a credit card for our $90 per stay incidentals hold, otherwise the refundable cash deposit fee is $200. With either payment and barring any need to use it, the deposit ($90 with credit card, $200 cash) will be returned upon check out.
